A child who struggles with reading or has a dyslexia diagnosis usually also struggles with self-worth. It is so important to not only remedy the problem but also put the student in a program they can succeed in! I would love to come alongside your child and begin the journey to better reading and spelling strategies and self-esteem. A structured literacy program is the standard for helping struggling readers grow and learn, giving them the tools they need to succeed! I offer both Orton-Gillingham and the Orton-based Barton Reading and Spelling System.
Orton-Gillingham is a systematic, sequential, multi-sensory approach designed for students with a dyslexia diagnosis or struggling readers. It works because kids know what to expect with each lesson and start with whatever previous knowledge they have. They gain confidence with each lesson because it is set up for success.
Barton Reading and Spelling System is an Orton-Gillingham-influenced reading and spelling system that is also multisensory, structured, and sequential in its method. Each child starts at the same level but then continues at a pace that works for them. They grow confident as they see their progress and begin to understand the English language.
I offer fully online, interactive tutoring sessions using either the Orton Gillingham or Barton Reading and Spelling System. I have a great program that reproduces the ‘hands-on’ approach of both methods. I believe it is important to not only give the child the tools he/she needs to succeed in reading and spelling but also to understand how the struggle has affected self-esteem and confidence. Not only do both methods lend themselves to building self-assurance, but one of my main goals is to help the student gain confidence not only in their reading and spelling abilities but in themselves.
